Graphic Footage of the Last Days of the ISIS Caliphate
The Islamic State made its last stand at Baghuz, Syria, against the Syrian Democratic Forces. On Saturday, 23 March 2018, the SDF declared victory over the Islamic State (aka ISIS, ISIL, Daesh).The General Command of Syriac Military Force[s] made a statement, saying “This is a victory for the alliance of forces and their firm belief in their goals and the principles of democracy, brotherhood of peoples and the common struggle of all components of the Syrian people.” In an announcement Saturday morning, Çiya Firat, SDF campaign commander, said, “We carried out the campaign Jazeera Tempest. The territorial control of #ISIS is over. And we share this victory with the whole world.” The Head of the SDF Press Office, Mustafa Bali, said “Syrian Democratic Forces declare total elimination of so-called caliphate and %100 territorial defeat of ISIS. On this unique day, we commemorate thousands of martyrs whose efforts made the victory possible.” The Kurdistan Solidarity Campaign welcomed the news, tweeting, “The Caliphate is over. The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces have defeated ISIS. 9490 Kurds, Arabs and internationalists sacrificed their lives for this. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude. Thinking especially of our comrade Orso who was killed on Monday.” The International Volunteers Report said via Twitter, “The #YPJ has been on the forefront of this war in the protection of social values, giving great sacrifices in the struggle to create an equal and democratic society against all the darkness.” Ilham Ahmed, co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council, reminded the world that the battle against ISIS was not over: “The second stage of the war with #ISIS is to fight sleeper cells and the third stage will be to combat the ideology.”
