Russian Warships to Leave Syrian Waters
Moscow says it has begun the reduction of its Syria deployment with the only Russian aircraft carrier to leave first.
Following the Russian-brokered ceasfire in Syria, President Vladimir Putin has ordered a ‘reduction’ of its armed forces in the region.
Russian military chief Valery Gerasimov was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying:
In accordance with the decision of the supreme commander of the Russian armed forces, Vladimir Putin, the Russian defence ministry is beginning the reduction of the armed deployment to Syria.
The naval battle group led by the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov will be the first to withdraw. Russia’s military commander in Syria, Andrei Kartapolov, confirmed that Russia continued to have S-300 and S-400 systems active in Syria.
