No Cyber Warfare Unit for IDF

IDF chief of staff decides against special cyber warfare unit

Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot, Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, has made the surprise decision that the military will not set-up a dedicated cyber warfare unit, instead C4I Teleprocessing Corps will conduct cyber defence and the Intelligence Corps will remain responsible for cyber offencives.

Eizenkot had earlier stated that he would establish a dedicated military ‘cyber wing’. Israel Hayom quoted an unnamed senior commander as saying that:

One of the reasons why it was decided not to concentrate all the authority for cyber warfare in one place was the Intelligence Corps’ opposition to moving its authority to the Computer Services Directorate, and the concern that a major change in the [cyber] field would affect the cyber capabilities of Military Intelligence.
