British Lead NATO Spearhead Force
From today, 1 Jan 17, the UK assumes responsibility for NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) contributing about 3,000 personnel.
20th Armoured Infantry Brigade (20 Armd Inf Bde) has been selected to lead a framework group of 14 partner nations, providing the VJTF land component – VJTF(L) – Brigade HQ, armoured infantry and light role infantry battlegroups plus communications, reconnaissance, intelligence capabilities, combat support and logistic elements to ensure that the multinational brigade operates as a rapidly deployable and effective fighting force.
The UK’s validation exercise for the VJTF(L) Headquarters was Exercise VENERABLE GAUNTLET held at Sennelager Training Area in Germany in September 2016. Venerable Gauntlet saw more than 3,000 personnel from 14 NATO Troop Contributing Nations take part.
