Defence Procurement Targets Small Businesses

The MOD has announced the next step in its programme to put small businesses at the heart of Defence procurement and deliver value for money.

The MOD has made its contracts simpler to make it easier for small businesses to bid for Defence projects. This comes as part of SDSR15 targets to have 25% of procurement delivered by SMEs by 2020.

Minister for Defence Procurement Harriett Baldwin said:

Acting on direct feedback from industry, we have introduced a simplified contract with three pages for terms and conditions compared to at least 18, and often more, in our previous low value contracts. This is part of a wider programme of work to encourage smaller businesses to get involved in Defence.

The MOD has also created a £800m Innovation Fund designed to support fresh and innovative ideas from across and beyond the Defence sector.
